ALBION, Mich. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team fell to their hosts from Albion College by the score of 13-9.
The Thunder struck first in the contest, with Chris Molnar finding the back of the net in the fourth minute of the contest. They held the lead for six minutes before the Britons got their first goal of the game. The home team added a second goal in the waning minutes to take a 2-1 lead into the second quarter.
Trine scored first again in the second with Mitchell Voglewede tallying the goal. It was the start of a wild period with the teams combining for 11 goals, with Albion scoring seven. Volgewede scored a second in the period and Aidan Kubiak had a pair of goals as well. At halftime the score was 9-5 in favor of the home team.
The teams matched each other during both remaining periods, scoring two each in the third and the fourth quarters. Voglewede scored twice more, once in each period, while Peter Piccillo and Aiden Theobald each got their first.
Nick DiPaolo played in goal for the Thunder and finished with 16 saves while allowing the 13 goals. During the game is reached 400 career saves. He currently sits at 415, solidly second in the career standings.
Jack Konicek won 15 faceoffs in the game, leading both teams, and led the Thunder with seven ground balls. With the performance he breaks the Trine career record for groundballs. He currently sits at 348, six ahead of the past leader.
The Thunder fall to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play after the loss. They are scheduled to continue their season on Saturday, April 17 when they host Calvin University for a 7 p.m. contest.
