ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's soccer team suffered its fifth consecutive defeat in conference play as the Thunder put forward a strong effort, but fell 1-0 to Adrian College. Trine was outshot 13-to-7 but matched the Bulldogs (5-4-2, 3-2 MIAA) on shots on goal with three. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Stewart (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) had two saves, both in the first half for the Thunder. Trine now falls to 2-7-1 overall and 0-5 in MIAA play.
The game was scoreless in the first half in a field position game where neither team could gain the advantage and featured zero combined corners in the first half and nine total shots. Adrian would nearly score in the first half as one of their shots ended up hitting off the top crossbar.
In the second half, the game began to pick up a bit as the rain began to fall steadily as the stakes escalated. In the 65th minute, Adrian's Pat Bradley took a corner kick that ricocheted off a Trine player and right into the legs of Nick Minshall, who finished the scoring play to the lower left hand side of the goal.
Trine tried desperately to next the equalizer but a break was not in the cards for Trine, who despite a solid defensive effort failed to muster the offense necessary to take down the Bulldogs.
Next up for the Thunder they will host Olivet College on Oct. 9 at 4 p.m.
