ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine men's soccer team closed out the Ketner Classic with a 3-1 victory over Manchester Saturday afternoon at Weaver Field.
The Thunder scored two unanswered goals to close the match and earn the victory. Kenny Rappuhn (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich), Brec Musselman (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) and Mac Green (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) all scored goals for Trine, while Nick Lang (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) added a pair of assists. Matthew Jordan scored for the Spartans. The Thunder outshot MU 23-12. Trine improves to 3-2-1 with the victory, while Manchester falls to 2-3.
Rappuhn got the Thunder on the board at the 19:40 mark of the contest. Rappuhn outworked the defender on a 50/50 ball off the foot of Chris Stewart (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester), coming away with the steal and beating the keepr for his second goal of the season.
Jordan knotted the contest up just 43 seconds later, heading in a corner off the foot of Josh Collier to make the score 1-1.
Musselman's first-career tally broke open the tie and gave the freshman what would prove to be his first-career game-winner. Lang picked up the assist on the goal, which came at the 41:36 mark of the first half
Green added an insurance goal just over 15-minutes into the second half. Lang ripped a shot off the crossbar, but Green was there to corral the rebound and deposit it in the back of the net for first tally fo the season.
Stewart made five saves in net for the Thunder to earn the victory.
Trine opens MIAA this Wednesday, Sep. 17 when they host Hope at 4:00 p.m. The Flying Dutchmen are currently ranked eighth in the nation.
