ALBION, Mich.-- The Trine men's soccer team defeated Albion, 1-0 to earn its first MIAA victory of the season Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Bucky Carpenter (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview) scored in the second half to provide all the scoring the Thunder would need. Ben Moricz (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler) picked up the assist. Ian Jindrich (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) made six saves to earn his second-career shutout and first ever in conference play. Trine improved to 4-5-1 overall and 1-3 in conference matches. Albion fell to 4-4-1 overall, 2-2 in MIAA-play.
The two teams battled to a stalemate until Carpenter got the Thunder on the board at the 66:30 mark of the contest. The freshman scored his third goal of the season off a pass from Moricz. The goal was the first game-winner of Carpenter's career. Moricz's assist was his third of the season.
Trine played the last 23 minutes of the match down a man due to a red card, but the Thunder defense was able to keep the Britons off the board. The Trine defensive corps was able to withstand two corner kick attempts and limit Albion to just two shot attempts over the last 23 minutes.
Albion outshot Trine by a 15-8 margin. Justin Kraft made two saves for the Britons.
The Thunder return to action this Wednesday, Sept. 30 when they host Olivet at 4 p.m.
