ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine men's soccer team was defeated by Hope in overtime, 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Weaver Field.
Late in the second half Bill Wilson (Mason, Mich. / Mason) scored to give the Thunder the 1-0 lead. One minute later James Reymann scored off a place kick for the Flying Dutchmen to tie the match back to one a piece. In overtime play, David Porte scored the game winning goal for Hope, with the assist coming from David White. Trine falls to 4-9 in conference play and to 7-11-1 overall with the tough lost. Hope improves to 5-7-1 in the MIAA and to 8-9-1 overall
The first half ended in a deadlock between the teams. Hope out shot Trine by a 6-4 margin.
At the 7:06 mark in the second half Wilson controlled a loose ball off a throw in, wheeling and firing into the top corner to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. It was his third on the season.
Reymann's goal off a free kick just 1:16 later to knot the score and send the game to overtime. Porte scored off a header from White 1:54 into overtime for the game-winner.
Ian Jindrich (Aurora, III. / Metea Valley) made three save for Trine.
The Thunder return to action this Saturday Oct. 31, for senior day, when they play Alma for their last game of the year at 2:30 p.m.
