HOLLAND, MICH.-- The Trine men's tennis team had several successful performances on the first day of the MIAA Flighted Tournament, which was played Friday at the Etheridge Tennis Complex.
Joe Dunbar (Indianapolis, Ind./Guerin Catholic) has advanced to the Consolation Semifinals of the A Flight in singles play. Dunbar dropped his opening match to John Strikewerda of Calvin, but rallied to pick up a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory over Joshua Gove of Alma in the Consolation Quarterfinals. He will face Adrian's Jordan Verbauwhede in the Consolation Semi's. The two players have not faced each other this season.
Nick Cassidy (Archbold, Ohio/Perrysburg) is also alive in the Consolation Semifinals of the B Flight singles matches. Cassidy fell to Alma's Grant Hill in three sets in the opening round, and received a bye in the Consolation Quarterfinals. He will face Ross Kynast of Albion tomorrow in the Consolation Semi's. Cassidy did not face Kynast when the two teams met earlier this season.
Tyler Davis (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) is set to play Anthony Vroon of Calvin in the C Flight Consolation Semifinals tomorrow.
Davis and Derek Miller will compete in the Consolation Semifinals of the B Doubles Flight tomorrow against Tyler Asfour and Jared Doezema of Calvin.
