ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine men's tennis team opened the spring in dominating fashion with a 9-0 sweep of Manchester Wednesday afternoon in Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.
The Thunder won all singles matches in straight sets. Caleb Knust (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield), Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) and Brian Zoehner (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) each won their matches by 6-0, 6-1 scores. Knust improved to 4-2 on the season, while Zoehner picked up the third win of his freshman campaign. Gilbert's victory was his first of the season. Trine improved to 3-4 with the victory. Manchester fell to 0-4.
Nick Cassidy (Archbold, Ohio/Perrysburg), Joey Clark (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) and Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind./Western) each picked up singles wins as well. All three players picked up their third singles victory of the season.
The duos of Clark/Cassidy and Zehner/Gilbert each earned 8-0 wins in doubles play. Knust/Cassidy picked up their victory in the no. 1 flight by an 8-2 final.
Trine will face Hanover and Berea this Saturday, Mar. 14 at Hanover College. The first match of the day is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.
