FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Caleb Knust has been named MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Knust (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) won both of his singles matches in straight sets to lead the Thunder to victories over Rochester College and Taylor last week. The junior won both of his sets by 6-0 scores to defeat his opponent from Rochester, before picking up a pair of 6-3 victories Saturday at Taylor. Knust also teamed with fellow junior Nick Cassidy (Archbold, Ohio/Perrysburg) to notch a pair of doubles wins. Knust is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and the third time in his career.
After earning All-MIAA honors each of the last two seasons, Knust is enjoying another strong campaign. He is off to a 6-2 start in singles play, with all of those matches coming in the no. 1 flight. Knust has won three-straight matches to bring his career record to 41-10 in singles play. He is third at Trine in career wins based on records that date back to 1986.
Trine has won three-straight matches to open the spring season. The Thunder carry a 5-4 record into Thursday's match at NAIA-foe Spring Arbor. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
