ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine men's tennis team gave Hope a test in several matches, but fell to the Flying Dutch 8-1 in a MIAA match Wednesday evening in Keith E. Busse / Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.
Blake Trusty (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) and Jacob Weiss (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) combined on the win at No. 2 doubles for the lone Thunder victory. The duo scored an 8-5 victory over their opponents. Trusty and Weiss earned their first MIAA victory of the season in doubles play.
Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) and Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) each took the first set from their opponents, but fell in three sets.
Gilbert, Garrett Baysinger (Brazil, Ind. / Rockville) and Tyler Davis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Snider) each played the final home match of their respective careers. Gilbert has notched seven wins as Trine's No. 1 singles player this season. Baysinger has reached double-digit wins with 10 for the first time in his career. Davis is 9-5 in singles play, good enough for the second-best winning percentage on the team.
