FREELAND, Mich. -- Trine University men's tennis freshman Jaxon Davis (Angola / Angola) was tabbed as this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Atheltic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week. It is the first time that the freshman has received the award.
"Jaxon had a great week for us," said head coach Erin Kolar, "It has been great to have a local freshman make such a large impact this early in his career and I expect he will continue to be a big part of Trine tennis in the future."
Davis finished the week with a perfect 4-0 record, going 2-0 in both his doubles and singles matches.
Trine took on Franklin College in their first dual match of the week coming away with the 6-3 victory. Davis and sophomore Isaac Everitt (Scottsburg / Scottsburg) came away with an 8-4 doubles victory to help give the Thunder a 2-1 lead coming out of that portion of the match. Davis went on to pick up another point for the team finishing his singles portion victory with scores of 6-1, 6-0.
In the second dual match of the week, the Thunder battled hard against Grace College but eventually fell by the score of 6-3. Davis and Everitt were responsible for all of the team's points on the day. They started by taking their doubles match by the score of 8-6. While Everitt easily dispatched his opponent in the No. 4 singles match, Davis needed to battle to defeat his No. 3 opponent. Davis took the first set and dropped the second before winning a super tiebreaker to take the match with scores of 6-3, 2-6, 10-4.
Following the perfect week, Davis has started his college career with a 4-1 record in both doubles and singles matches.
