ANGOLA, Ind.-- Trine notched seven first-place finishes to highlight the Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic, held Friday at Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.
Teams of runners earning first-place finishes included the Distance Medley Relay and 4 x 400 Relay. The DMR team made up of Sean Brady (Monroe, Mich./Monroe), Zach Markley (Winamac, Ind./Winamac), Cody Verhey (Paragon, Ind./Martinsville) and Robert Duke (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) took first with a time of 10:57.72. The 4 x 400 team made up of Nate Smoker (Bronson, Mich./Bronson), Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon), Markley, and Christian Hill (Granger, Ind./Penn) won in 3:25.18. That time currently ranks 12th in the nation.
James Gregory (Warsaw, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) added a win in the 60 M Hurdles with a time of 9.22. Duke placed fourth in the 3000 M.
Trine took the top two spots in two events, including three of the top four finishes in the 400 M. Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg) won with a time of 49.69, with Fimreite placing second in 51.37. Jacob Leopold (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) was fourth with a time of 51.79.
Sam Gilly (St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) and Dakota Bagwell (Kokomo, Ind./Western) took the top two spots in the Weight Throw. Gilly topped the field with a throw of 51 feet, seven inches. Bagwell threw a career-best 49 feet, 6.25 inches.
Courtney Mitchell (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Leurs) won the Shot Put with a throw of 45 feet, 2.5 inches. John Daniel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) rounded out the first-place finishes by winning the Pole Vault, clearing a height of 14 feet, 5.25 inches.
