NAPERVILLE, Ill.-- Trine's Dakota Bagwell and Sam Gilly competed in hammer throw at the NCC Gregory Final Qulifier Track and Field Meet, hosted by North Central College.
Bagwell (Kokomo, Ind./Western) placed 11th in the event with a throw of 169 feet, 10 inches. The senior's season-high throw of 184 feet, 3 inches set previously at MIAA Field Day currently ranks 22nd in the nation, likely putting Bagwell just short of national championship qualification. The aforementioned season-best throw was both a conference and school record.
Gilly (St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) finished just behind Bagwell, coming in 13th with a throw of 162 feet, 7 inches. Gilly's career-best throw of 174 feet, 4 inches at MIAA Field Day is the 36th best throw in the nation this year. The throw also eclipsed the previous conference record
Trine will have several performers looking to solidify or qualify for national championship appearances today in the event.
