Barnett's Record Highlights Zimmer Indoor Classic

ANGOLA, Ind. -- Jeffery Barnett set a school record in the long jump for the second consecutive week to lead the performance of the Trine men's track and field team in the Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic.

Barnett (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont-Ross) jumped a distance of 7.61 meters (24 feet, 11.75 inches) to move into first in the nation with a school-record jump. This is the second week in a row and the third time this season Barnett has set a new program mark. According to all-time records kept by the USTFCCCA, Barnett's jump is the sixth-best in NCAA Division III history.

Andrew Bunting (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) added a win in the weight throw to highlight efforts of Thunder performers in the field. Bunting's toss was measured at 16.60 meters (54 feet, 5.5 inches). Nick Gerber (Goshen, Ind./ Goshen) added a personal-best throw of 14.84 meters (48 feet, 8.25 inches) to place fifth.

Elsewhere in field events, Jacob Payne (LaPorte, Ind. / LaPorte) placed second in the pole vault. The sophomore cleared a height of 4.40 meters (14 feet, 5.25 inches) to tie his overall personal-best and set a new indoor career-best mark.

Highlighing the efforts on the track was a first-place finish by Jasper Bassett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) in the 400-meter dash. Bassett crossed the finish line 50.80 seconds.

Bassett very nearly caught the first-place finisher on the final leg of the 4-x-400-meter dash as the Thunder placed second. Jacob Leopold (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf), Patrick Richardville (Leo, Ind. / Leo) and Gregory Littlejohn (LaPorte, Ind. / LaPorte) combined to contribute to the time of 3:26.10, just .05 seconds behind the winning team from Bethel.

Leopold added a second-place finish in the Mile, finishing with time of 4:32.95.

Trine also took the top five spots in the 5000-meter run, paced by Jonathan Phillips' (Royal Center, Ind. / Pioneer) 15:49.53 to place first. Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind. / Eastern) added a 15:56.71 time to finish second.
