ATLANTA, Ga.-- Three Trine men's track and field performers set new personal-bests on day one of the Emory Invitational at Emory University.
Two Thunder runners set new PRs in the 10,000-meter run. Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind. / Eastern) led the way with a fifth-place finish. His time of 32:45.42 was a 14-second improvement from his previous best. Colin Elek (Osceola, Ind. / Penn) shattered his old personal-best by more than a minute, running a time of 33:15.83. He placed ninth in the 32-runner field.
Nick Gerber (Goshen, Ind. / Goshen) added a personal-best throw in the hammer throw. His toss of 48.40 meters (158 feet, 9.5 inches) was good enough for sixth out of 25 competitors.
Jeffery Barnett (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont-Ross) added a seventh-place finish in the long jump. Barnett came away with a distance of 7.01 meters (23 feet) in his first outdoor performance after finishing as the national runner-up in the event during the indoor season.
