ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Trine men's track and field team competed in the Emory Invitational, which concluded Saturday.
Derek Scott (Niles, Mich. / Niles) led all Thunder performers competing in the event with a fifth place finish in the shot put. Scott's best throw was measured at 13.28 meters (43 feet, 7 inches). Scott's performance came in a field of 41 competitors.
Adrien Howard (Marion, Ind. / Marion) won the subseeded section of the 1,500-meter run and placed 13th overall in the event. Howard crossed the finish line in 4:08.17.
Mat Bollan (Pleasant Lake, Ind. / Angola) added a pair of ninth-place finishes in hurdles. His performances came in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdle events.
Elsewhere on the track, Vilis Vuskalns (Indianapolis, Ind. / Beech Grove) finished second in the C-section of the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:19.61. That time was good enough for 19th overall. Jasper Bassett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) led Trine performers in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash, while James Washington (Michigan City, Ind. / Michigan City) notched the team's best time in the 100-meter dash.
Mitch Martin (Monroe, Mich. / Monroe) added an 11th-place performance in the discus.
Trine's performance yesterday was highlighted by personal bests by Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind. / Eastern) and Collin Elek (Osceola, Ind. / Penn) in the 10,000-meter run, as well as a personal best for Nick Gerber in the hammer throw.
