GREENCASTLE, IND. -- The Trine University men's indoor track & field team placed fourth at the DePauw University Indoor Invitational in Greencastle, Ind.
The Thunder finished with a team score of 68 points to place fourth of 13 teams. Wabash College came in first in the standings with 146 points. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology was second with 128.5 points and host school DePauw was third with 95 points.
Highlighting the meet for Trine individually was a first-place finish by senior Jeffery Barnett (Fremont, Ohio/Ross) in the long jump with a distance of 22' 6.25". His mark bettered his nearest opponent by over two feet. In addition to Barnett, fellow senior Eric Townsend (Greenwood, Ind./Roncalli) also competed in the long jump and placed in the top-10 in seventh place after a best effort of 19' 4.75".
The Thunder had two individuals finish second and third in the pole vault with senior Jacob Payne (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) clearing the bar at 14' 4.00" to place second and fellow senior Ryan Haarer (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) cleared 13' 10.00" to place third overall.
In the weight throw, senior Nicholas Gerber (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) had the best finish for Trine of eighth place following a best toss of 47' 5.75".
Other top marks in the field events included a sixth-place finish by freshman Noah McClellan (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) in the triple jump with a distance of 37' 11.50" and sophomore Nicolas Kane (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) posted a distance of 42' 8.00" in the shot put which was good enough for ninth place.
In the running events, Barnett competed in the 60-meter dash and placed second after clipping the tape in a time of 7.13 seconds. In addition to Barnett, freshman Josh Davis (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights) also ran in the event and placed one spot back in third place in a time of 7.15 seconds.
Sophomore Harrison Korkos (Rochester, Ind./Rochester) competed in the 5,000-meter run and posted the top overall time for Trine at 16:27.25 to finish in third place.
Trine had a pair of six-place efforts in the one-mile and 3,000-meter runs. Sophomore Neil O'Brien (Whiteland, Ind./Roncalli) competed in the mile run and completed the event in a time of 4:35.29. Fellow sophomore Levi Neuzerling (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) placed sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a mark of 9:04.83.
Sophomore Derek Miller (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview) also competed alongside Neuzerling in the 3,000-meter run and placed eighth after completing the event in a time of 9:10.10.
In addition, Trine had a top-three finish in the distance medley relay with the team of sophomore Alexander Amaro (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran), freshman Jacob Rider (McComb, Ohio/McComb), Neuzerling and Miller recording a combined time of 11:05.45 to place second.
