WAVERLY, IOWA -- Junior Jack Beakas (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) set a school indoor record in the 5000-meter run at the Wartburg (Iowa) College Qualifier on Saturday in Waverly, Iowa.
Beakas was a handful of athletes from Trine's men's indoor track & field team to compete in the meet. Beakas ran a time of 14:44.11 in the 5000m to finish second overall in the event and set the school record by nearly three seconds (14:47.30).
Senior Vilis Vuskalns (Indianapolis, Ind./Beech Grove) and junior Derek Miller (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview) also competed in the 5000m. Vuskalns finished two spots back of Beakas in fourth place in a time of 14:47.01. His mark also came in under the previous school all-time mark. Miller completed the race in a time of 15:27.55 to finish in 21st place.
Also competing at the meet as freshman Jake Gladieux (Oregon, Ohio/Whitmer) and sophomore Josh Davis (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights). Gladieux competed in the 60-meter hurdles and posted a mark of 8.48 seconds in the prelims which was the 10th overall quickest time. Davis ran in the 60-meter dash and had a time of 7.06 seconds, also in the prelims, and also placed 10th. Both times fell just shy of qualifying for the finals.
The 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Championship is scheduled to begin on Friday, Mar. 13 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. Start time for the meet is TBA.
