WINONA LAKE, IND.-- The Trine men's cross country team won the Grace Lancer Invitational, held Saturday morning on the campus of Grace College.
The top five finishers for the Thunder accumulated 41 points to edge the host Lancers by 20 points. Four top-10 finishes led the way for Trine, topped by Adam Schaaf's (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) fourth-place finish. Schaaf completed the 8K race in 27:03 for his highest-placed finish of the season. Nine teams and numerous individual runners competed in the race. Nathan Lane of Grace was the individual collegiate champ with a time of 26:39.
Robert Lewis Duke (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) finished just behind Schaaf at 27:04. That time topped his previous career-best by 21 seconds.
Austin Ganger (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) and Zachary Phillips (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) placed ninth and 10th respectively. Ganger came across the finish line in 27:20, with Phillips pulling in just behind at 27:24. Phillips' time was a season-best for an 8K race, topping his previous-best by 53 seconds.
Rounding out Trine's top five was Collin Elek (Osceola, Ind./Penn) with a time of 27:39. That time was nearly a minute-and-a-half better than his previous-best 8K time this season.
Trine returns to action Saturday, Oct. 18 at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational.
