ANGOLA, IND.-- Trine's Bree Fuller and Carly Searles have been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District® Softball Teams.
Fuller (Hubbardston, Mich./Fulton) and Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) have been key contributors for the sixth-ranked Thunder. Fuller has led the Thunder in the circle and excels in the classroom as Exercise Science/Pre-Physical Therapy major. The junior has thrown a no-hitter and a perfect game this season while leading the MIAA in wins (21), strikeouts (205) and strikeouts per seven innings (10.42). Searles is a Marketing major who has been a force atop the Thunder lineup this season. The All-American center fielder leads the nation with 15 triples and tops the MIAA in hits (72), stolen bases (26), batting average (.497), and on-base percentage (.552).
The 2014 Capital One Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the third year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
Trine won both the regular-season and MIAA Tournament titles on their way to a 37-3 record. The Thunder await their selection to the NCAA Regionals, with the field set to be announced tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
