ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University softball team swept the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) weekly awards the conference announced today. Junior Hannah Kampmann (St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin Derham Hall) was named Pitcher of the Week while classmate Makenna Hartline (Niles, Mich. / Brandywine) was named Position Player of the Week.
It is the second time that both players have earned the respective awards this season and during their time at Trine.
Hartline came home with the Thunder's third position player of the week honors this season with another spectacular week at the plate. She finished the team's six games this week with ten hits including three doubles and two homers. She also reached base on balls six times and then swiped six bags.
All told she finished the week with a .588 batting average, a .696 on-base percentage and a 1.118 slugging percentage, as the Thunder finished with six wins securing their ninth MIAA regular season championship.
Kampmann appeared in four of the Thunder's games this week including three starts. She allowed just two runs in those games and walked just six runners. She finished the week with 17 strikeouts and a 3-0 record.
The highlight of the week came in the doubleheader against Hope College on Wednesday. After coming away with the one-run first game victory, which secured Trine's title, she returned to the circle for the final inning of the second game and closed out the game with two strikeouts.
The Thunder finished the regular season with a 30-4 overall record while going 14-2 in MIAA play. They will host the MIAA Tournament beginning on Thursday, May 2. Their first game is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. against four-seeded Saint Mary's.
