ANGOLA, Ind. -- Trine University softball finished off their extra-inning game against Hope College this morning but were eliminated from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Associaton (MIAA) Softball Tournament by the score of 5-4.
The resumed game began with the ninth inning with both teams tied at four. The Thunder had a one time in the game led 4-1, but a two-run seventh inning from the Flying Dutch tied the contest and led to extra innings.
After a scoreless eighth the two teams returned to play this morning. The Thunder started strong with a lead-off double, but failed to bring the runner in and went into the bottom half of the inning still tied.
Hope wasted little time ending the contest, as their first batter sent a shot over the left field fence, taking the contest 5-4.
Having failed to secure the MIAA's automatic qualifier Trine will have to wait to find out their NCAA fate. They will find out on Monday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. The show will be broadcast on NCAA.com
