HOLLAND, MICH.-- Hope clinch the MIAA regular-season championship with a 90-40 victory over Trine's women's basketball team Saturday afternoon at DeVos Fieldhouse.
The second-ranked Flying Dutchmen never trailed on their way to the victory. Nine Hope players scored six or more points, led by Mandy Traversa's 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Maura McAfee added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Becky Depp (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) scored a career-high eight points to lead Trine. Hope remains undefeated at 23-0, 15-0 in MIAA play. Trine falls to 5-17 overall, 2-12 in conference play.
Alivia Recker (Arlington, Ohio/Arlington) and Kelsey Henselmeier (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) each added six points for Trine. The Thunder shot 22 percent from the field (12-of-54).
Hope shot 48 percent from the field (33-of-67). The Flying Dutchmen held a 34-12 edge in the paint and a 26-9 advantage in second-chance points. Hope's bench outscored their Trine counterparts 56-21.
Trine will play their final home game of the season as part of a doubleheader Wednesday, Feb. 19 when they host Kalamazoo at 6:00 p.m. in Hershey Hall.
