ANGOLA, IND. -- Senior Katy Steers (Portage, Ind./Portage) and sophomores Tara Bieniewicz (Chesterfield, Mich./Dakota) and Kayla Wildman (Rockford, MIch./Rockford) have been named to the All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association for their efforts during the women's basketball season.
Steers and Bieniewicz were both selected as first-team honorees and Wildman garnered second-team accolades. This marks the first All-Conference award for each player.
Steers has played in, and started, all 25 games this season and is currently third on the team in scoring with an 8.8 points per game average while shooting 39.9 percent (69-of-173) from the field overall. She is also among the team's top rebounders with a 4.8 boards per game average. Additionally, Steers leads the team in assists (112) and steals (60). Her 112 assists currently rank as the seventh most in a single season in Trine program history.
Against the MIAA, Steers leads the conference in assists (112), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.7) and steals (60). She also ranks in the top-10 in both free-throws made (6th - 67) and free-throw percentage (6th - 68.4 percent).
In 111 career games, Steers has scored 725 points (6.5 ppg) and has a 40.7 lifetime shooting percentage (243-of-597). She has made 52 career three-pointers (52-of-177) and is 187-of-273 (68.5 percent) from the free-throw line all-time. She has grabbed 395 rebounds (3.6 rpg) to go along with 301 assists, 176 steals and 10 blocked shots. Her 301 assists are currently sixth most in program history and her 176 steals are also sixth all-time.
Bieniewicz has had a standout "sophomore" season and leads the team in scoring at an even 12.0 ppg. on 45.8 percent shooting (98-of-214). She leads the team in both three-pointers made (52) and attempts (133) for a 39.1 shot percentage. Bieniewicz has scored in double figures in 15 of 23 games played and has scored a career-tying high 21 points in two of her last three games. She also averages 2.1 rpg to go along with 34 assists, 24 steals and is second in blocks with 16.
In the MIAA, Bieniewicz ranks in the top-10 in scoring (5th - 12.0 ppg), assist-to-turnover ratio (5th - 1.8), three-point field goal percentage (2nd - 39.1), three-pointers made (52), field goal percentage (9th - 45.8) and field goals made (98-of-214).
Wildman has also had a successful season in her second year with the Thunder program and is currently second on the team in scoring at 9.2 ppg. in 25 games. She is second behind Bieniewicz in three-pointers made (45) and attempts (122) for a 36.9 percent shot percentage and is shooting 40.1 percent from the field overall (79-of-197). She has had 10 games this season of 10 points or more that includes a career-high 21 points against Kalamazoo. Her three-point field goal percentage (36.9) and three-pointers made (45) ranks among the league leaders with her percentage being the fifth-best in the MIAA and her 45 made triples are sixth best.
Wildman has also been averaging 2.4 rpg in addition to tallying 24 assists, 15 steals and eight blocks.
Trine will be the second seed in this year's MIAA Tournament that begins on Wednesday. The Thunder will receive a first-round "bye" and will compete in the semifinals that will be played on Friday, Feb. 28 in Holland, Mich. Trine will play the winner of No. 3 Albion (Mich.) College vs. Nov. 6 Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. The start time for Trine's game on Friday is set for 5:30 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse.
