MARSHALL, MICH.-- The Trine women's golf team opened their season with a sixth-place finish in the Olivet Fall Invitational, which concluded Saturday at Medalist Golf Club.
After round one play was unable to be completed due to storms Friday, teams had to play a full round plus complete round one holes today. The Thunder improved on their round one score by 10 strokes to shoot a 337 in the second round and bring their two-day total to 684 (+108). Leading the way for the Thunder was Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport), who fired a 163 to finish in a tie for ninth overall. Trine's sixth-place finish was good for third among MIAA teams competing in the tournament. Olivet won the tournament with a score of 664, with Casey Lamp taking over medalist honors after shooting a 155.
Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) improved her round one score by eight strokes with a 79 in the second round. She finished with a 166 overall, good enough to tie for 13th. Katherine Guertin (Worthington, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) finished third among Trine golfers with a 168.
Rounding out Trine's top four golfers scored was Jaime Frost (St. John, Ind./Hanover Central). The sophomore improved on her round one score by 11 strokes in day two of the tournament.

Trine's "B" group of golfers finished 11th. Brooke Johnson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) led the group with a 192.
Trine continues their non-conference tournament schedule next Saturday, Sep. 13 when they compete in the Manchester University Invitational.
