MARSHALL, Mich.-- The Trine women's golf team is in third place after the first round of the MIAA National Qualifier, held Tuesday at Medalist Golf Club.
The top four Thunder golfers combined for a score of 343, which outs Trine 20 strokes back of first-place. Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) led all Thunder golfers with a 10-over 82, which placed seventh overall in the round. Olivet is in first place with a team score of 323, followed by Hope at 325. Trine leads fourth-place St. Mary's by 22 strokes. Britni Gielow of Hope shot a four-over 76 for the top score in the first round.

Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) finished second among Thunder golfers and 11th overall with an 86. Katherine Guertin (Worthington, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) finished just behind, with an 87 to finish in 12th place. Amanda McPherron (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) tied for 13th to round out Trine's top four.
The winner of the three-round, 54-hole MIAA National Qualifier receives an automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The next round will be contested Monday, April 20 at Ravines Golf Club in Saugatuck, Mich.
Trine returns to action Saturday, April 18 at the Manchester University Spring Invitational.
