MARION, IND. -- The Trine University women's golf team competed in its second event of the season at the Indiana Wesleyan University Fall Invitational at Arbor Trace Golf Club in Marion, Ind.
Overall, the Thunder posted a two-day team score of 677 strokes and bettered their final round score by seven shots compared to day one (342+335=677). St. Francis (Ind.) University won the event with a total of 603 strokes (299+304=603) and was followed by host school Indiana Wesleyan and Indiana Tech who both finished with 615 strokes to tie for second.
All five players eligible for the overall team score, fired a pair of rounds in the 80's, led by senior Mackenna Kelly (Angola, Ind./Angola) with a tournament total of 166 strokes (85+81=166). Sophomore Karlee Fackler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Heritage) was second on the team and finished one shot back of Kelly at 167 total strokes (85+82=167).
Freshman Maire Sullivan (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth) and junior Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind./Muncie) shot a pair of rounds of 86 strokes to finish in a tie for third at 172 strokes. Sophomore Jenna Doumount (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) rounded out the five team scorers with rounds of 87 and 86 strokes to end the event with an overall score of 173 strokes.
Freshman Reagan Guthrie (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa Area) competed as an individual in the tournament and posted a total of 192 strokes with rounds of 99 and 93 strokes, respectively.
Trine will next compete at the annual two-day Kyle Campbell Classic hosted by Olivet (Mich.) College at The Medalist Golf Course in Marshall, Mich. beginning on Friday, Sept. 6. The first round is set to begin at 2 p.m.
