ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's hockey lost the first half of their doubleheader against visiting Northland College by the score of 3-1.
The Thunder struck first in the contest when in the 12th minute of the first period sophomore Olivia Coyne (Allison Park, Pa.) took the puck the length of the ice. Her shot flew just over the top of the net. Coyne stole the puck back from the defense and passed it to the slot where classmate Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) was waiting to put her puck over the shoulder of the Jills' goaltender.
Northland knotted the game at 1-1 in the 18th minute of the period with a power-play goal. They would add to their lead in the ninth minute of the second period and would hold the 2-1 lead into the final intermission.
The Jills iced the game in the final minute of play with an empty-net goal to take their final lead of 3-1.
Junior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) got the start in net for the Thunder and ended the contest with 16 saves.
Trine falls to 8-10-2 overall and 6-7-2 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). They will face off with Northland again tomorrow, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m.
