GENEVA, Ill. -- The Trine University women's hockey team traveled to face Aurora University for their third game of the weekend and will return home with a 2-0 loss.
The Thunder kept pace with the Spartans offensively throughout the contest as both teams finished the game with 25 shots on goal. For Trine, junior defender Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ontario) led the way for the team with six shots in the contest.
Aurora scored both of their goals in the second period of the game, the first coming in the third minute and the second coming on the power play in the 12th minute.
The 2-0 lead was enough for the victory as they turned in a shutout performance defensively.
For the Thunder, junior Ryan Harth (Medinah, Ill.) received the start in net, her first of the season. She finished the contest with 23 saves despite allowing the two goals.
Trine falls to to 3-5-3 overall following the loss. The team will take the ice again on Friday, January 10 when they host Chatham University. The first in a pair of games between the two teams is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
