ANGOLA, Ind. – Despite a strong defensive effort, the Trine University women's hockey team dropped their first game against visiting Lake Forest College by the score of 1-0.
Casey Frank led the effort finishing the game with 40 saves after receiving the start in net. Her best moment came in the 12th minute of the second period, coming up with a huge save on a breakaway opportunity for the Foresters, keeping the scoreless tie intact for the second intermission.
The Thunder were heavily outshot in the first two periods, with the visitors posting 29 shots compared to just 14 from the home side. The third was a much more even affair, with Lake Forest coming up with just a slim advantage at 12-10.
Kailey Mleko led the offensive effort with five shots on goal, with Dorka Gengeliczky and Lauren Lacroix each adding four to finish second.
The Foresters finally put one past Frank in the tenth minute of the final period. After the Thunder tied up the puck along the boards in their own zone, Lake Forest was able to break it free and pass it to the high slot. From there they put their shot over the left shoulder of Frank for the goal.
Trine falls to 0-7-0 overall and 0-5-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play following the loss. They will host the Foresters again tomorrow, Saturday, November 17 with opening puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m.
