ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine women's lacrosse team was defeated by Alma, 22-9, Tuesday evening in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.
Tracy Gallihugh scored seven goals to lead the way for the Scots, who outshot the Thunder by a 48-22 margin. Gallihugh also dished out three assists, and has now scored 43 goals on the season. Anne Mammel (Tecumseh, Mich./Tecumseh) and Taylor Gast (Akron, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) each scored three goals to lead Trine. Mammel added an assist for her first four-point game of the season. Trine falls to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the MIAA. Alma improves to 7-5 overall, 2-1 in league play.
Grace Garrett made 19 saves in net for the Thunder. Her performance gives her 107 saves this season, the third highest total in a single-season in Trine history.
Mammel got the Thunder on the board with a free position goal just 1:40 into the contest. The Scots answered with a five-goal run however to take the lead for good. Gallihugh scored three goals and dished out an assist during the run.
A free-position goal by Darcy Little (Williamsburg, Ohio/Williamsburg) and another goal by Mammel cut the score to 5-3 with 20:51 remaining in the first half, but that was as close as the Thunder would get the rest of the way. With two goals, Little has now scored multiple goals in five-consecutive contests. The Scots gradually built their halftime lead to 15-5, which proved to be too much for Trine to overcome.
Ashton Street notched four goals and two assists in a six-point effort for the Scots. Stephanie Herman was credited with the win in goal after making three saves during the first half.
Trine returns to action this Saturday, Apr. 12 when they travel to Calvin. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
