ANGOLA, Ind.-- Trine came up on the short end of a matchup with MIAA-foe Calvin, dropping a 16-4 decision to the Knights Saturday afternoon in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.
Calvin scored the first nine goals of the game, all of which came in the first half, to build a lead Trine was unable to overcome. The trio of Emily Cefaratti, Carolyn Forbes and Amanda Davio combined to score all but two of the Knights' goals. Cefaratti and Davio each scored five times, while Forbes added four tallies. Taylor Gast (Akron, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) notched a pair of goals to lead the Thunder attack. Trine is now 3-3 overall, 0-2 in the MIAA. Calvin improves to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Bailey Brown (Sheridan, Ind./Westfield) and Rebecca Plantz (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) each added goals for the Thunder. Grace Garrett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) stopped 10 shots in net.
Calvin outshot Trine by a 37-10 margin and controlled 15-of-22 draws in the game. Karissa Reed earned eight draw controls for the Knights.
Cefaratti, Forbes and Davio combined for all but one of Calvin's goals in the first half. Forbes and Davio scored three times-apiece, while Cefaratti added a pair of tallies to pace the big first half.
Trine scored three of the first four goals of the second half. Gast found the back of the net twice, while Plantz added one of those tallies. Brown later added a Thunder goal to cut the score to 14-4 late.
Trine returns to action Tuesday, Apr. 7 at Kalamazoo, with the first draw set for 7 p.m.
