FRANKLIN, Ind.-- The Trine women's lacrosse team was defeated by Franklin 14-2 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Faught Stadium.
The Grizzlies seized control early, scoring the first eight goals. Carley Campbell, Presleigh Hobbs and Hannah Grow each tallied three goals to lead the way. Hobbs added two assists for a game-high five point effort. Anne Mammel (Tecumseh, Mich. / Tecumseh) scored both Thunder goals to lead Trine. Mammel has notched multi-point efforts in every game this season, including two consecutive two-goal performances. Trine fell to 0-3 on the season. Franklin improved to 2-1 overall.
Rebecca Plantz (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt) added an assist on Mammel's first tally of the game. She added two caused turnovers. Whitney Shaffer (Tipton, Ind. / Tri-Central) also caused a pair of turnovers in her first career game. Goalkeeper Caity Rose (Hamilton, Ind. / Hamilton) notched a career-high nine ground balls for the Thunder.
Overall, the Grizzlies had five players total three or more points. Franklin scored three free-position goals and outshot Trine by a 26-10 margin. Kayanna Wolter made four saves while playing the full 60 minutes in net to earn the victory.
Trine concludes its non-conference season Friday, Mar. 25 at Wilmington (Ohio). Game time slated for 1 p.m.
