ADA, Ohio—The Trine wrestling team placed three wrestlers at the Ohio Northern Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
At 165 pounds, Luke Carver (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) lost his opening bout to move him into the consolation bracket. Carver bounced back with four wins including two by major decision and one by tech fall to advance to the consolation round semifinals. Carver dropped a 9-3 decision to Heidelberg's Steven Murry before placing sixth with a loss in the first tiebreakers to Waynesburg's Dan Verhovsek.
Austin Farrell (Hopkins, Mich./Allegan) placed eighth at 174 pounds. Farrell opened with an 8-2 decision over Mason Pillow of Otterbein. Farrell was edged out by Campbellsville's Justin Brown 4-1 to move to the consolation bracket where he faced his teammate Kevin Groves. Farrell won a 10-7 decision, but was then pinned by Ohio Northern's Kyler Deeter. Farrell lost his seventh place match to Ohio Northern's Clayton Davidson, 6-2.
At 184 pounds, Jaycee Jenson (Burns Harbor, Ind./Chesterton) took eighth. Jenson lost his opening bout, but then found success in the consolation rounds. Jensen won his next three matches including a pin and a tech fall. After a loss to Rexx Hallyburton, Jenson lost his seventh place match by fall.
The Thunder returns home on Thursday night when it will play host to Adrian for a 7 p.m. match in Hershey Hall.
