OLIVET, Mich.—The Trine wrestling team placed seventh at Mid-State Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Olivet College. Five Thunder wrestlers were individual place winners with Caleb Maddox leading the way taking third place at 149 pounds.

Joining Maddox on the podium were Luke Carver (174, fourth place), Anthony Neal (197, fifth place) Brandon Gay (165, sixth place) and Tyler Prater (HWT, seventh place).

Maddox (Russiaville, Ind./Western) opened the day with a bye. He followed with an 8-3 decision over Adrian's Ty Jasman. Maddox lost his next bout, but bounced back with a win by major decision. In his match for third place, Maddox picked up a win by major decision, 18-6, over Heidelberg's Tyler Majoy.

Carver (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) began his day with a major decision over Heidelberg's Eric Murdock, 8-0, at 174. Carver was knocked down to the consolation round, but the freshman beat his next three opponents by way of a major decision and two pins. In the match for third place, Carver was pinned by Ohio Northern's Clayton Davidson.

At 197 pounds, Neal (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) lost his opening match and received a bye in his first round of wrestle backs. Neal lost his second match, but rallied back to place fifth after pinning Adrian's Riley Griffin.

At 165 pounds, Gay (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) opened with a bye and was sent to the wrestle backs with a loss in his first match. Gay followed with two wins, including one by major decision. The Thunder wrestler dropped his next two bouts to place sixth.

At heavyweight, Prater (Homer, Mich./Homer) lost his first bout by a 7-4 decision. The senior came back to pin his next two opponents. Prater lost by tech fall to Christian Climer of Heidelberg, but bounced back to place seventh with another pin.

The Thunder returns to action on Feb. 25 when it will travel to the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional.
