ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University men's wrestling team welcomed Manchester (Ind.) University to Hershey Hall and took on the Spartans in an unscored multiple-round style event.
The Thunder captured wins in 13 of 23 total matches during the afternoon with multiple individuals who went undefeated in their respective weight classes.
Highlighting the day were senior Cordell Camp (Waterloo, Ind./Garrett) and sophomore Matthew Abraham (Seven Hills, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) who both won a pair of bouts. Camp competed in the 184-pound weight class and defeated his first opponent by technical fall (21-3; 4:44) and then had his hand raised in his second match after posting an 8-0 major decision victory. Abraham won his two matchups both by pinfall that included one pin in under a minute (55 seconds) against Alex Searfoss. His second pin was against Alex Gronkiewicz in a time of 1:23.
As a team, Trine swept all three matches in both the 184-pound and 197-pound classes with Chandler Lock winning by a 16-11 decision at 184 pounds and Ryan Mahoney taking victory by pin in a time of 2:07.
The Thunder also swept the three heavyweight bouts, all by pinfall. Freshman Jacob Jackson (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Central Catholic) pinned Jorge Martinez in a time of 1:02. Senior Jacob Garrett (Colfax, Ind./Clinton Prairie) also competed against Jorge Martinez and pinned him a time of 2:47. Junior Brent Booth (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) rounded out the victories with a pin in a time of 4:54.
Additionally, senior Nevan Freestone (Frankfort, Ind./Clinton Prairie) and freshman Isaac Hawkins (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) both competed a match at 149 pounds and each won their individual matchups to complete the sweep for Trine in the weight class. Both wrestlers competed against Manchester's Charlie O'Connor and both win by pin with Freestone winning in a time of 33 seconds and Hawkins in 2:13.
Trine is scheduled to travel to Alma, Mich. to compete in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Dual Tournament hosted by Alma College next Saturday, Feb. 13. The day is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
