ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's wrestling team kept it close early but the visiting team from Adrian College pulled away in the upper weight classes handing the home squad a 35-12 loss.
The Bulldogs struck first in the dual, scoring bonus points on a pin in the 125 match to take the 6-0 lead. The Thunder's Joseph Langeman was quick to respond. The Junior scored a pin of his own at the 1:30 mark of the 133 match, tying the score at six.
The next two matches, 141 and 149, would go in favor of the Bulldogs, but only by slim margins. Junior Jett Boots fell 9-4 in his match and classmate Isaac Hawkins dropped his match just 5-4.
Sophomore Philip Burney took the matt for the 157 match with the team trailing 12-6. It took him just 1:45 to tie the dual again, recording the team's second pin of the night.
The final five matches of the contest would go in favor of the visitors as they retook the lead and built it to its final total of 35-12.
Trine falls to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play following the loss. Members of the team will travel to Adrian for the MIAA Tournament where they will compete individually.
