ANGOLA, Ind. - In a game in which scoring opportunities where are at premium, the Trine University women's soccer team fell to Saint Mary's in double-overtime 1-0. Trine (2-8, 1-7 MIAA) was outshot 17-to-2 in the contest but Thunder senior goalkeeper Jamie Schnarr (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) had four saves and was a big reason for keeping Trine in the game to the very end.

The first half saw the two teams play through a downpour of rain. Despite the weather, the two sides combined for eight shots in the opening half. Trine produced a great chance to score as an outlet pass from junior Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) down the right sideline led to a 1-on-1 opportunity for freshman Jami Patterson (Argos, Ind./Argos) with the Belles goalkeeper but the shot would be saved.

Saint Mary's best chance of the first half came off a pass from the right hash from almost 30 yards out as it landed right in front of the goal. The header sailed high and the score remained tied heading into the second half.

The biggest opportunity either side had in the second half was a Saint Mary's shot to the bottom right corner of the goal that looked good but ended up just outside the net. Trine would have three corners to St. Mary's four but neither side could connect for a key goal.

In the first overtime, Trine had the only shot opportunity as their mid-range shot from the left hash went wide left.

The game looked like it would end in a tie, but in the second overtime the Belles would be awarded a penalty kick a Trine foul inside the box. The short kick to the lower right corner by Saint Mary's Mollie Valencia ended the game almost three minutes into the second overtime.

Trine had the only shot attempt in the first overtime, while the Belles penalty shot was the lone shot attempt of the second overtime.

The Thunder's next game is at home as they take on Kalamazoo College Oct. 8 at 4 p.m.
