ANGOLA, IND. – Two members of the Trine University women's soccer team have been awarded all-conference honors from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).
Senior goalkeeper Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso/Valparaiso) was named to the ALL-MIAA first team and senior midfielder Erica Hoot (Fort Wayne/Carroll) was named to the All-MIAA second team. It is the first time that either player has been given the honor.
Hoot finished the season second on the team with three goals. Her two successful penalty kicks this season tie for second in Trine University's NCAA Division III history. She served as a team captain for the Thunder this year adding crucial leadership both on and off the field during the season.
Veljovic started every game in net for the Thunder this season and took the opportunity to add to her already impressive career numbers. Veljovic finishes the season with six wins, a season-high since Trine joined the MIAA in 2004. She also recorded top-4 tallies in shutouts (3, 2nd), saves (148, 3rd), save percentage (.827, 4th) and goals against average (1.55, 3rd). She finishes her career at Trine as the record holder for career saves (456) and wins (12) and is second in both career save percentage (.823) and goals-against average (1.64).
"We are extremely proud of our two seniors," said head coach Terry Stefankiewicz, "They both worked really hard this year. They, along with last year's All MIAA selection Gigi, were great leaders to all their teammates throughout this season."
Last season as a junior midfielder Gigi Jarratt (Valparaiso/Valparaiso) was the lone Thunder women's soccer player to garner an All-MIAA selection. This season, along with Hoot, Jarratt served as a team captain.
