ANGOLA, Ind. -- Junior Kristen Reece (Indianapolis / Roncalli) came away with two goals, as the Thunder defeated visiting Defiance by the score of 5-0.
Trine started the scoring early when in just the sixth minute of the contest junior Madison Sanderson (Leo / Leo) received a pass at the top of the box from freshman Mia Schlueter (Fort Wayne / Carrol) and put it over the top of the keepers head. The goal was Madison's first of the season.
Reece scored the first of her goals in the 38th minute of the contest when she worked a shot past the keeper from inside the box. The goal gave the Thunder a 2-0 lead that they would hold into the intermission.
Trine once again wasted no time getting the offense going scoring a goal just 25 seconds into the second half. Freshman Hayley Waltz (Rawson, Ohio / Cory-Rawson) received a pass from junior Morgan Sanderson (Leo / Leo) just inside the box and put the ball just over the goalkeeper's outstretched hands. The goal is Waltz's second of the season.
The Thunder would take a 4-0 lead in the 65th minute of the contest when Reece bent a shot around the goalkeeper from the top of the box.
Morgan Sanderson finished off the scoring putting the team up 5-0, in the 69th minute when she brought the ball into the box and worked it past the keeper for her first goal of the season. With the goal, Morgan raises her career tally to 14, tying the record for most goals in a career at Trine since the school began competing in the NCAA Division III level. With her three points today she also moves into a tie for first in career points for Trine with 33 total.
Trine will next take the field when they travel to face Ohio Northern on Friday, Sept. 14. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
