BATTLE CREEK, Mich.-- The Trine women's tennis team picked up its second-consecutive MIAA victory with a 6-3 win over Olivet Sunday afternoon at Minges Athletic Club.
The Thunder fell behind 2-1 after doubles play, but five singles powered Trine to the victory. Marissa German (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) and Madison Hatkevich (Granger, Ind./Edwardsburg) each picked up key, three-set victories. German dropped her first set in the no. 3 flight, but came back with a pair of 6-2 victories to earn the Thunder an important point. Hatkevich split the first two sets before rallying in the third to earn the 6-2 victory in the deciding set. The freshman has now won four-straight singles matches.
Lexi Mack (Temperance, Mich./Bedford), Tarah Brennan (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) and Chelsea Ort (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) all earned singles victories in straight sets for Trine. Mack's victory in the no. 2 flight was her seventh of the season. Brennan and Ort each improved on solid freshman campaigns with number five on the season.
Hatkevich also teamed with Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) for the no. 3 doubles victory. The duo picked up an 8-1 win. Hatkevich and Pass are 6-2 when paired together this season.
Trine improved to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA with the victory. Olivet fell to 2-16 overall, 0-6 in conference matches.
The Thunder continue MIAA play Monday, April 20 when they host Albion. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
