ANGOLA, Ind.-- A singles victory by Kaitlin Black provided the highlight for the Trine women's tennis team as the Thunder opened the spring season with an 8-1 loss to Ohio Northern Thursday evening in Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.
Black (Crawfordsville, Ind. / Southmont) picked up her first career singles victory in the no. 4 singles flight. The junior earned a hard-fought, 6-4 victory in the first set. She was able to close out her first career win with a 6-1 victory in the second set.
Carlee Richardson (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) made her varsity debut in the match for the Thunder. Richardson competed in the no. 6 singles flight and made up the no. 3 doubles pairing alongside Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich. / Olivet).
The match also marked the return of Tarah Brennan (Allegan, Mich. / Allegan) to Trine's lineup. Brennan earned six wins as a freshman last year.
Ohio Northern improved to 8-1 on the season with the victory. The Thunder fell to 1-4 overall.
Trine returns to action Saturday, Mar. 19 when the Thunder host Bethel (Ind.) at 1 p.m.
