ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine women's tennis team was edged by Adrian, 5-4, in the MIAA opener Friday evening in Keith E. Busse / Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.
The Thunder won four singles matches, but the Bulldogs swept doubles play. The edge in doubles matches was just enough for Adrian to stave off Trine's comeback attempt.
Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) extended her winning-streak and perfect start to her collegiate career with her seventh consecutive win in singles play. Braun moved up to no. 5 singles for the first time and responded with a 6-4, 6-3 win. The freshman is 7-0 on the year.
Tarah Brennan (Allegan, Mich. / Allegan) broke through after some tight matches recently to take the win at no. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Her victory got the Thunder on the board with its first point of the match.
Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind. / Jefferson) also extended her winning-streak with a victory at no. 3 singles. The junior battled through a tough 7-6 victory in set one before closing things out, 6-0. Pass has now won four matches in a row.
Theresa Magenheimer (Indianapolis, Ind. / Hamilton Heights) broke into the lineup with a victory at no. 6 singles to close out Trine's wins. Magenheimer rallied back after dropping the first set to even things up with a 6-4 win in set two. She completed the comeback with a 6-1 win in set three. Magenheimer's win was her first career MIAA victory.
Brennan and Carlee Richardson (Lakeland, Ind. / LaGrange) provided Trine's toughest challenge in doubles play. Their counterparts were able to fend off the challenge and earn the victory in two-point advantage, 9-7.
Trine fell to 2-10 overall and 0-1 in MIAA matches. Adrian improved to 5-7 overall, 1-0 in conference matches.
The Thunder return to the courts Thursday, Apr. 6 at Saint Mary's. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
