ADRIAN, MICH. – The Trine University women's tennis team picked up their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) win of the season by defeating Adrian College 5-4.
The Thunder started the contest strong coming away with two of the three doubles matches, to take an early 2-1 lead. In the No. 2 match senior Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind. / Jefferson) and freshman Andrea Jordan (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) came away with a hard fought victory that required a tiebreaker to reach a decision. Pass and Jordan came out on top 9-8 (7-2). In the No. 3 doubles match sophomore Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and freshman Katie Simon (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw) came away with the 8-4 win.
Trine finished off the win in the singles portion taking three matches for the 5-4 final. Pass picked up her second win of the match at No. 3 singles with scores of 6-2, 6-1. In No. 5 match Braun came away with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Simon put away the match with a come from behind victory in the No. 6 singles winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Trine improves to 1-1 in conference following the victory. They will look to come away with another win when they travel to face Albion College on Sunday, April 8. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
