ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine women's track and field team set four school-records and had six record-breaking performances overall in the Trine Conditioner meet, held Friday night at Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.
Ashtyn Capen (Saint Louis, Mich./Saint Louis),Lydia Suchecki (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) and Jennifer Steyer (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) each broke school-records for the Thunder. Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) competed as an unattached performer and broke a pair of school-records. Including the school-record performances, the Thunder had 10 personal-best efforts in the season-opening meet.
Eck and Steyer set the tone for the night, as both throwers topped the old school-record in the Weight Throw. Eck's throw came in at 53 feet, 4.25 inches, while Steyer finished just behind at 50 feet, 5.5 inches. Both performances marked the first time a women's Weight Throw performer has topped 50 feet in school-history, and shattered the old school record of 45 feet, 10.5 inches. Eck's indoor Shot Put record came in at 40 feet, 3.5 inches.
Capen started her Trine career with a record-breaking time in the 60 M Dash. The freshman came in with a time of 8.52 seconds, breaking the old school-record by .06 seconds. Suchecki gave the Thunder another record-setting performance by a freshman with her success in the High Jump. Suchecki jumped 5 feet, 0.25 inches for a new Trine indoor record.
All of Trine's record-setting performances came from underclassmen. Steyer is a sophomore, while Eck, Capen, and Suchecki are in their first seasons at Trine.
Reigning Indoor All-American Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) started her season with a personal-best time of 10:42.33 in the 3000 M. The performance was good enough for first place.
