FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Kara Eck has been named the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) picked up the honor for the second-consecutive week. The freshman broke Trine's record in the hammer throw for the second week in a row with a toss of 154 feet, 4 inches at the DePauw Invitational. The performance was good enough for second place. Eck also placed second to a Division-I competitor in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 10 inches. She has the best performances in the MIAA in both the hammer throw and shot put so far this season. Eck is being honored as Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and second time in her career.
Since the beginning of the indoor season, Eck has set new school-records in the hammer throw, weight throw and shot put. The freshman earned All-America honors in the weight throw during the indoor season, placing sixth in the nation. Eck currently ranks 21st in the nation in the shot put and 32nd in the hammer throw for the outdoor season.
Trine will compete in the MIAA Jamboree this Saturday at Adrian College. Events are slated to get underway at 9 a.m.
