NEW ORLEANS-- Trine's Kara Eck was named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Great Lakes All-Region team, the organization announced today.
Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) earned All-Region honors for her performance in both the weight throw and shot put. This is the second straight year the sophomore has won All-Region recognition in the weight throw. To be named All-Region, an athlete must either finish in the top-five of an individual event or be part of a top-three relay team.
Eck qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships in both events. She enters Friday's weight throw championship seeded 11th in the nation. The sophomore is seeded 16th in the shot put, which will take place Saturday afternoon. She could become Trine's first-ever All-American in multiple field events.
The honor adds to Eck's list of accomplishments, which also include USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors earlier this year. Last year, Eck earned All-American honors in the weight throw with a sixth-place finish in the nation.
The weight throw national championship will take place Friday at 4:30 p.m. The finals of the shot put will be held Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m.
