HILLSDALE, Mich.-- Kara Eck broke a school record to lead Friday's performance of the Trine women's track and field team in the Hillsdale GINA Relays.
Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) unleashed a throw of 179 feet, 1 inch in the hammer throw to break her own school record by just less than 10 feet. She had set the previous program record two weeks ago. Eck's throw finished ahead of numerous performers representing NCAA Division I and II institutions and was good enough for fourth overall. The throw vaults Eck to the number four national ranking in the event.
Eck also turned in an equally impressive performance in the shot put as the sophomore placed third. Her throw of 45 feet, 8.5 inches once again placed Eck ahead of numerous performers from higher divisions. Her throw was 10 feet better than the next-best effort by a Division III student-athlete.
Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton) finished second to Eck among Division III performers in the hammer throw. Steyer's throw was measured at 148 feet, 6 inches. Steyer finished ahead of the third-place Division III competitor by 26 feet.
Lydia Suchecki (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) added the second-best performance by a Division III competitor in the high jump. Suchecki cleared a height of 4 feet, 10.5 inches.
