Eck Concludes Season with 18th-Place Finish in Hammer Throw

GENEVA, Ohio -- Trine's Kara Eck wrapped up the season with an 18th-place finish in the hammer throw Saturday morning at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.

Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) unleashed a throw of 49.71 meters (163 feet, 1 inch) in her final performance of the 2017 season. Her efforts were not quite enough to earn All-America honors. The junior made her third consecutive appearance in the Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.

The performance wrapped up an outdoor season that saw Eck earn MIAA Field MVP honors. She broke the conference record in the hammer throw at the MIAA meet. She also set a new school mark in the event. Yesterday, Eck placed 14th in the shot put at the national meet.

Eck earned All-America honors during the indoor season after placing seventh in the weight throw at the Indoor Track and Field National Championships. She won MIAA Field MVP honors for her performance during the indoor season as well, giving her the season sweep of the conference's top field honors.

This season, Eck was recognized with five MIAA weekly awards. She was also a USTFCCCA All-Region honoree during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Eck's performance was the final event for a Trine student-athlete during the 2016-17 school year. Eck will have one remaining year of eligibility to seek a school record fifth All-America honor.
