ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University women's track and field team began its 2017-18 indoor season by hosting the unscored Sean Brady Conditioner and finished first in six individual events.
The women had two multi-event winners in senior Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) and sophomore Jenna Gales (Mendon, Mich./Mendon).
Eck posted victories in the shot put and weight throw. In the shot put, Eck recorded a toss of 43' 5.75" (13.25m). In the weight throw, she recorded a high mark of 57' 5.50" (17.51m) which was over a foot farther than her nearest competitor.
Gales crossed the finish line in two running events which included the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Gales had a winning time of 27.00 seconds in the 200m and followed that with a time of 1:01.01 to take top honors in the 400m.
Coming off of a stellar cross country season, senior Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont./West Yellowstone) continued that success as a distance runner by capturing the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:58.25.
Rounding out the event winners for Trine was freshman Abigail Kuhlman (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) who came in a tie for first in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9' 0.25".
Trine will continue the season next Saturday, Dec. 9 when the Thunder travels to Findlay, Ohio to take part in the University of Findlay Open. The start time for the meet has yet to be decided.
