ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University women's track and field team finished second overall at the Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic hosted by Trine at the The Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind.
As a team, the Thunder finished the meet with 117.5 points to place second behind Indiana Tech who totaled 150 points to take the team title.
The Thunder women won a pair of individual events and had a winning relay team. Both individual wins came in the running events with sophomore Jenna Gales (Mendon, Mich./Mendon) taking first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.97 seconds. Junior Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) finished just behind Gales in second place with a mark of 1:02.43.
Garrow went on to captured the 800-meter run after crossing the finish line in a winning time of 2:29.89. Freshman Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) came in second behind Garrow with a time of 2:32.33.
In the 4x400-meter relay, Trine came in first beating out its nearest opponent by 57 one-hundreths of a second to record a time of 4:12.05.
In field events, sophomore Andrea Hagar (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) led the way with a pair of top-three finishes, highlighted by a second-place effort in the wieght throw with a distance of 45' 0.25" (13.73 meters). She placed third overall in the shot put following a best toss of 33' 10.00" (10.31 meters).
The track and field team will compete in the Dick Small Invitational hosted by Defiance (Ohio) College on Friday, Feb. 9. The first events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in Defiance, Ohio.
